Year 1 progress

In Year 1, our flagship product Justice Transcribe – an AI-powered notetaking and summarisation tool – has been rolled out nationally to probation staff. Justice Transcribe is delivering clear, powerful benefits for frontline staff by reducing administrative burdens and supporting frontline operations at scale. We are receiving enthusiastic feedback from frontline staff, who value the ability to focus more on engaging with people on probation and supporting rehabilitative work.

We are continuing to expand the use of Justice Transcribe across the justice system. The tool has been rolled out nationally to all judges in the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber), and we are exploring its wider application into prisons, courts, and the Youth Custody Service.

Year 2 priorities

In Year 2, our focus will be on scaling these Justice Transcribe applications, testing and refining models, and enhancing our translation capabilities. As these services mature, activity will also focus on strengthening reliability, performance monitoring and assurance.

Justice Transcribe - Pre-Sentence ReportsPilot

Building on strong results from its use in the Probation Service, this AI-powered tool is now being piloted in courts to explore where else AI can add value.

The tool uses securely recorded interviews to generate structured draft meeting notes for practitioners to review and refine, supporting more accurate and consistent information capture as one of several inputs to the final Pre-Sentence Report (PSR). By reducing the need for manual note-taking, it enables practitioners to focus more on interviews, apply professional judgement, and spend more time meaningfully engaging with individuals and quality assuring reports before submission.

The pilot will assess whether this tool can improve efficiency, support more consistent and higher-quality report drafting, contribute to better-informed sentencing decisions, and inform future decisions on the safe and effective use of AI across courts and probation services.

Judicial TranscribeScale

This AI-powered transcription tool helps courts and tribunals capture proceedings in real time by converting oral decisions, evidence and arguments into structured case notes and hearing records.

Following successful pilots, Judicial Transcribe has been rolled out nationally across the Immigration and Asylum Chamber. By reducing reliance on manual note-taking, the tool is reducing administrative burden and speeding up the preparation of decisions, enabling judges and legal professionals to focus on the substance of proceedings rather than record-keeping.

Justice Transcribe in Probation - Sentence ManagementScale

Justice Transcribe is transforming how probation staff capture and use information. Probation officers manage complex caseloads where timely, accurate record-keeping is essential to managing risk and supporting rehabilitation.

Using speech recognition, this AI-powered tool transcribes, summarises, and structures records from probation supervision sessions and case interactions.

By reducing administrative burdens and improving the quality and consistency of case records, Justice Transcribe is enabling probation officers to spend more time on meaningful engagement and rehabilitative work.

Following successful pilots, the tool has been scaled to over 12,000 probation officers and is delivering measurable impact. Over 1.5 million meetings have been summarised between 7 October 2025 and 14 September 2026. View the latest Justice Transcribe statistics (opens in a new tab).
