AI Action Plan Explorer

The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) is at the forefront of responsible AI adoption across government. One year on from publishing the AI Action Plan for Justice, this explorer highlights progress against our ambitions. We are committed to being transparent about how we use AI and will continue to work with industry, academia, civil society and the wider public sector to realise its benefits safely and responsibly.

This explorer will not be updated in real-time. It represents a snapshot of our Year One progress (30 July 2025 – 30 July 2026) against the AI Action Plan for Justice, accurate as of 24 September 2026.

In Year One, we committed to establishing strong foundations, building capability and delivering early wins.

Explore our selection of case studies to discover how AI is being applied across the justice system.

In Year Two, our priority is to scale what works to improve outcomes more widely across the justice system. All future work will be taken forward in line with appropriate engagement and consultation requirements, including with trade unions where relevant.

Year 1 progress

In Year 1, we have begun to help leaders and staff understand and prepare for the wider workforce implications of AI. This includes exploring how AI may influence roles, skills, ways of working and organisational design, while ensuring the workforce is equipped to adapt as AI adoption continues to grow.

We have appointed workforce experts to help us shape our strategic approach to AI-related workforce impacts. This will enable people considerations to be central to organisational readiness activity for AI from the outset.

We have also strengthened our approach to identifying and managing workforce-related AI risks. This includes supporting responsible adoption from a people perspective and ensuring that workforce impacts are understood and addressed as new technologies are introduced within MOJ.

Year 2 priorities

In Year 2, we will accelerate workforce adoption of AI by embedding an MOJ AI Workforce Organisational Readiness Approach, providing a consistent framework for workforce adoption, change management and benefits realisation across business areas. We will also develop a clearer view of how AI will affect future workforce needs to inform longer-term workforce planning.
